HELMSMAN'S COURSE
This course is designed to teach boat handling, helmsmanship and seamanship to a level where the student can safely manoeuvre a motorcruiser under normal circumstances.

DAY SKIPPER
This course is designed as an elementary course in pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to safely skipper a motorcruiser by day, in familiar waters.

Possession of the shore based certificate although not essential would greatly enhance the value of this practical course, allowing the instructor to concentrate on the practical aspects of the syllabus.

The Helmsman's and Day Skipper may be combined as a single 5 day course.

COASTAL SKIPPER
The aim of this course is to teach skippering techniques for coastal and offshore passages. It is assumed that those attending will be competent helmsmen with a good knowledge of navigation and meteorology.

You will also have at least the minimum experience listed in the G18/93 Motorcruising Log Book. Possession of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shore based certificate would be beneficial.

NOTE: To take the above exam a restricted (VHF Only) Radio Operators Certificate is required. This course can be taken with North Sea Yachting.

COASTAL SKIPPER/YACHTMASTER EXAM PREPARATION COURSE
This course, although not in the RYA syllabus, is designed to help candidates in preparation for either of the above examinations. Students have found this refresher course in all aspects of motorcruiser handling, navigation and seamanship invaluable.

NOTE: To take the above exam a restricted (VHF Only) Radio Operators Certificate is required. Yachtmaster candidates also require a Small Craft First Aid Course completion certificate. Both of these courses can be taken with North Sea Yachting.

OWN BOAT TUITION
All of the above courses can be carried out on your own boat, provided that it meets certain safety standards complying to C8 of the RYA regulations and that there are no more than five students.

We also offer training, tailored to suit individuals' needs on specific aspects of seamanship, navigation and boat handling. These tuition packages can be arranged by the day or by the week.

Own boat tuition is a useful way to cruise and learn by having one of our skippers on board, especially when owners are 'going foreign' for the first time.

INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE
Some EEC Countries require proof of competence. This certificate both for sail and power complies with overseas regulations. For tuition and/or examination please ask for details.
