DAY SKIPPER SHOREBASED CERTIFICATE
A course for both novice and experienced sailors wishing to lay the foundations for getting afloat (and staying afloat!)

Forty hours minimum tuition is recommended to complete the course with a further fourteen hours of assessment papers away from the training room.

A broad knowledge in seamanship, safety, navigation, tides and meteorology will be gained, culminating in your ability to plan a passage and pilot your vessel safely and confidently into harbour.

COASTAL SKIPPER/YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE SHOREBASED CERTIFICATE
An advanced course in navigation and meteorology for candidates in the Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate.

Whilst the syllabus makes some provision for revision of subjects in the Day Skipper course, it is highly unlikely that this certificate can be obtained in the time available without having first gained the knowledge needed in the Day Skipper certificate.

While forty hours minimum tuition is again recommended, with probably twenty hours assessment papers, be prepared to spend up to and more than one hundred per cent additional time than the recommended tuition times.

YACHTMASTER OCEAN SHOREBASED CERTIFICATE
A course in astro-navigation and meteorology (not for the faint hearted!)

It assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the other Shorebased Courses with an absolute minimum of forty one hours tuition and again assuming one hundred per cent additional time needed.

DIESEL ENGINE COURSE
This course is not designed to make you a first class marine engineer! The aim is to give an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine and the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require workshop support.

This is a one day course with the traditional NSY lunch and a suitable 'mouthwash' to remove any diesel traces!!

RYA/DOT BASIC SEA SURVIVAL FOR SMALL CRAFT
The course aims to provide an understanding of how and when to use the safety equipment carried on small boats including a practical session in launching and boarding a life-raft.

Whist this is a full day course it does not attract the 'full on' NSY lunch, with a two hour practical in the afternoon a suitable light lunch will be provided.

ONE DAY RYA RADAR COURSE
A course providing an understanding of small craft radar as an aid to navigation and for collision avoidance.

Once again time to relax with lively debate over an NSY three course lunch.

FIRST AID AT SEA
This is a course designed to give basic understanding and practical education on techniques needed to cope with the many minor accidents and ailments occurring on a pleasure vessel at sea, with a three yearly update recommended.

A full day course with the traditional NSY lunch.
